Trash the Planet

Project Overview

In 2020, the team at This Game Is Haunted decided to continue development on Trash the Planet, a game that was created during a short Game Jam that had potential to grow and become a full fledged product. I was added to the team to assist and help wrap up asset creation before the game launch on March 15, 2021.

Goals

My goals were to seamlessly integrate into the established team and study the art style of Art Director Sarah Morgan. I wanted to take on this opportunity grow my skills and take on more responsibility.

My Role

I worked under Art Director Sarah Morgan to adopt the style she had developed for the game. My main role was to complete a list of icons that needed to be created for the game's menus that the player would interact with. These needed to be in-line with the game's comedic tone, and thanks are due to Game Designer and Writer Benjamin Morgan for providing hilarious descriptions to work off of.

I also contributed to character designs, background art, and key story art.

Research

Became familiar with Trash the Planet, a game where you play as a band of raccoons as they seize the means of production. Utilized a mix of real life human and raccoon reference to achieve the desired look. Brushed up on my Google Sheets expertise as the team tracked remaining assets and progress through the Google service. Became fluent in Procreate, an art program on iPads that was used as standard for the game.

Results

I contributed roughly 80 assets in a short time frame that were featured in game. My art is featured across every aspect of the game, from the core interface that users interact with, to backgrounds and screenshots that appear on the in-game smart phone.

We garnered over 50,000 total plays to date and have received countless positive reviews.
